Detection of blood sugar, total cholesterol and sex hormone levels
Biochemical indicators designed to validate the effect of starvation on the pregnant mothers were: blood sugar,total cholesterol, PROG and 17β-estradiol (E2) levels. The blood sugar concentration was determined by collecting blood samples with the ACCUCHEK Active of Roche(Roche, Germany) and corresponding test strips. 【产品原文引用】The contents of SIgA (E-78235) in saliva and serum IL-2 (E-80069), IL-6 (E80071), and TNF-α (E-80095) were determined using commer cial ELISA test kits (Shanghai Jinma Laboratory Equipment Corpora tion., Ltd., Shanghai, China, LOT201410) following the manufacturer’sinstructions. Briefly, captured antibodies against bovine SIgA or bovine IL-2, IL-6, and TNF-α were coated on plate wells. The serum and saliva samples were incubated with the solution and then washed to remove nonspecific binding. Horseradish peroxidase bovine anti-bovine SIgA or IL-2, IL-6, and TNF-α were used as detection antibodies. Optical density was recorded at 450 nm with a microplate reader (Bio-tek Instrument Inc., USA). Standard curves drawn from the concentration and standard absorbance were used to quantify the saliva SIgA and serum IL-2, IL-6, and TNF-α levels.

To determine the antioxidant indexes, a 10 % liver/PBS (0.01 mol/L, pH = 7.2–7.4) homogenate was first prepared. The liver SOD, GSHPx, GST, CAT, GSH and MDA levels were determined using ELISA kits,and T-AOC and H2O2 levels were determined by colorimetry. All the kits were purchased from Shanghai Jinma Laboratory Equipment Co.,Ltd. (Jinma, Shanghai, China), and each indicator was detected strictly according to the kit’s specifications.
